Teeling Small Batch

The flagship expression from Dublin's Teeling, the Small Batch Irish whiskey is made with a blend of malt and grain whiskeys, initially aged in ex-Bourbon barrels. Following that, the Teeling folks moved the whiskey over to casks that had previously held Central American rum! In these casks, the whiskey had an extra rest for up to 12 months, before being bottled at 46% ABV without any chill-filtration. Wonderfully full-flavoured, with plenty of fresh fruit, creamy vanilla and lively spice notes to enjoy!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Cut grass and orange blossom. Allspice, hints of vanilla, apple pie and blackberries.

Palate Spiced, rich palate with rose petal jelly and lemon curd. Creamy vanilla, hints of dried herbs and cinnamon.

Finish Floral, herbal finish. Caramel on the tail.

Overall A deliciously creamy, spicy and rich Irish blend.

Reviews for Teeling Small Batch
I bought this as a gift for my husband who loves Teeling whiskey. Delivered very quickly and packaged well. Excellent service.

Awesome Whiskey
Drank many a dram, some pretty expensive ones too, this is an excellent bottle, not a whiskey to wallop down, should be poured at room temp and sipped, hold on the tongue and actually taste it.

Excellent Customer Service
The total experience from order entry to product receipt was so easy and straight forward. The service and communication was excellent, order 1day received the next and with a complimentary sample. I would definitely recommend.

Wasn't creamy or rich-tasting at all, nor smooth. Not sure how those words came to be used about it! Try a sample first before you spend on a whole bottle.

Very Pleasant
I am just starting my whiskey journey. I picked up a bottle of this and thoroughly enjoyed my first taste.

It is different from the other Irish Whiskeys I have tried this far but i really enjoyed it.

Updated My Review
I last reviewed this when I bought a bottle of Teeling Small Batch, 21st June 2022. Now, it must depend on the batch and which Rum Cask it gets to mature in, because last year I said it was harsh and the Rum overpowered the Whiskey. However, I thought I would give it another try (as it was reduced in a Flash Sale) and this bottle was completely different. It tastes lovely, with a hint of Rum coming through. As I said last year I like Rum and I like Whiskey, and with just a hint of Rum coming through this Whiskey is no longer harsh and tastes delightful.

Least whiskey like whiskey I've ever had
Smells like Kahlua, tastes not like whiskey at all.
Creamy, sweet, floral, weird.
Nothing like any Irish whiskey I've ever had before.
Glad I had a shot in the pub, rather than a bottle.

No thanks
Normally I am a big fan of Irish Whiskeys but this one is a no for me. The " notes " of rum punches you straight in the nose and mouth. A harsh finish and not smooth at all.

Better with oxidation maybe?
This was a funny one for me. Since I’ve embarked on my whisky journey I’ve tried many and although I obviously have my preferences, I’ve essentially liked all I’ve tried to varying degrees. However this on opening and trying was the first time I actually didn’t like a whisky. I even contemplated throwing it away (which would have been annoying since I bought it in duty free so it’s a full ltr)… I gave it a few more chances and it definitely improved with each try. I have no idea why but maybe oxidation helped? Now it’s actually a pretty pleasant Irish whiskey. 0.5 stars for the initial experience, 3.5 stars now, balanced to a 3 stars total for me.
