Tamdhu is well-known and much-adored for its excellent use of sherry casks, and those of you with a penchant for single malt with heavy sherry influence will be delighted to know that the distillery's 15 Year Old expression continues that theme. This one has spent is maturation in oloroso sherry casks, resulting in generous helpings of dark fruit and Christmas spice.
Charred pineapple, earthy barley and a hearty slice of dense fruitcake, then some toasty oak warmth, orange zest and fennel.
Still packing heavy dried fruit notes, with a hint of orange oil and dried apricots cutting through. Earthy vanilla appears later on with touches of cedar, leather and cinnamon.
Warm and sweet, with waxy peels, clove, chocolate ice-cream and oily walnut.
Another terrific Tamdhu tipple!
Quality Sherry whisky. Recently gave a taste to some non-whisky drinkers. All changed their mind.
It is by far the best whiskey I have ever tried. Being a Sherry enthusiast, the job done by these people is just impressive. It is 46% and it doesn’t feel like. Just loved it. It can inspire art creation if you are after crafts. I’m going for the Batch 4 now.
Its funny how the big Speyside brands like Glenlivit & Macallan get all the publicity for their sherry focused malts, whilst others provide an equally as good (and in some cases better) product for a fraction of the price. So if you're swayed by marketing & blinded by the past then by all means shop the bigger brands. But those who want a fantastic and elegant sherry forwarded malt then try this one. It won't disappoint
so rich for a 15YO
