Tamdhu 12 Year Old Bottling Note

A fabulous Tamdhu, matured exclusively in a combination of first-fill and refill Oloroso sherry casks for 12 years. Sherried Speyside whisky is always a winner, with oodles of fruit and spice. Check out that handsome retro bottle, too. Stunning stuff.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Orange Starburst, cinnamon swirls and toasted oak, along with some mint chocolate.

Palate: Lots of plum, juicy raisin, fried banana, raspberry jam doughnuts and oak spice.

Finish: Chocolate fudge and just a whisper of smoke, with sweet cinnamon returning.

Tamdhu 12 Year Old (43%) Reviews

Fair price but nothing special.

Perhaps I expected too much given the reviews here but I felt this was nothing special. It lacked the richness and dried fruit notes I look for in sherried Malts. Whether that's due to the use of sherry treated casks I could not say. I suspect the 15 is far better and utilises better casks.

SUPERB 12 YR OLD SPEYSIDE

Happy Fathers Day 2021:
High respect for the 15 yr old (46%) brother.
They're both beautifully presented - unique bottle shape & guaranteed quality! ...... Great gift?

Natural Auburn / Bronze colour, sherry on opening - generous film on the Glencairn.
Fresh on the whiff, nothing overwhelming or outstanding! Some vanilla & wood (oak?)
Magnificent taste - full on, all those spiced fruits, malty & creamy, smooth & balanced. No big 💥 @ 43%. Thats OK!
The box suggests "merest wisp of peat smoke". Not for me!
Its a delicious, fruity speyside dram - a winner. That said, no disappointment here, but the older brother was 🤏 2 points better for me. Great value & yes, absolutely recommend. (both)

N: Vanilla Ice Cream, very fresh wood, shavings, sherry.

P: Creamy rich & warming - very much with those dried Christmas cake fruits, gentle wood, spice, nuttiness, even a hint of chocolate!

F: Gentle & quite superb, again a sherried wood well into a medium dry oak finish. ✔

Delicate and refined.

Nose: Fluffy whipped meringue, hints of vanilla pod. cinnamon. Clean sherry oak.

Palate: More of the same. A fluffy, vanilla meringue. Clean sherry. Cinnamon. Honey. A pinch of white pepper.

Medium finish.

The distillate really shines here. Certainly sherry forward but definitely not a 'sherry bomb'. Delicate and refined. An excellent dram. I would likely give it the full 5 stars if it were bottled at 46% abv.

A bit pricey in my area, though. It intrigues me enough to want to try the cask strength offering.

Delicate, refined distillate.

Nose: Fluffy whipped meringue, hints of vanilla pod, cinnamon. Clean sherry oak.

Palate: Much of the same. Fluffy whipped meringue. Clean sherry. Light honey and oak spice on the finish.

The distillate is excellent. The sherry is very clean, but this is a light and delicate dram. It isn't a sherry bomb. It is a delicate, refined dram.

Certainly a tasty sherry forward dram. The distillate is what really shines in this whisky.

A bit pricey in my area, though.

If it were bottled at 46% abv I'd likely give it the full 5 stars.

Bliss, incredible and absolutely mouth watering.

This Scotch is delectable. It is full of flavour and nearly a Sherry bomb. Its rounded, tastes of apricot syrup and cinnamon. Its mouth watering. And smells delightful.

Fantastic

Comfortably the best whisky I've tasted around this price point. Flavour of the sherry cask comes through wonderfully and the mouthfeel is just great. You won't want to stop drinking it

5 star

Excellent whiskey will definitely have again

Flawless

Tamdhu have the best Sherry casks in the business in my opinion. This is sensational, much better than the usually sulphurous Glenfarclas 12.
Pure, clean, sherried goodness, smooth and creamy but with enough of a spicy bite

Perfection

Wow, I can’t leave this alone! This has just risen to my no1 favourite , I can’t think of any part of this beautiful drink that could be improved upon. Perfection as far as I am concerned.

This is a gents drink

Imagine you leave some slightly minty chocolate to melt on a honey soaked oak board. This is what you get. Might be the best dram I`ve ever experienced.
