Talisker 8yo (SR 2020) Bottling Note

A fantastic Talisker here, released as part of Diageo's 2020 Special Releases! This 8 year old expression was aged in ex-pot still Caribbean rum casks - a first for the distillery! The result is brilliantly balanced, with smoke, fruit, peppery spice and even a touch of meatiness to it. Definitely worth checking out!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: First impressions are led by a sweet seaside vibe: seaweed, iodine, crystallised citrus fruit and charred meat. After a while, molasses and stewed tropical fruits come through, along with a wisp of smoke.

Palate: Silky smooth and mouth-filling, with prickles of that characteristic Talisker pepperiness. The fruit becomes more caramelised, and the smoke becomes more bonfire-like, but the nose and palate are beautifully aligned.

Finish: Long and warming, with the pepper turning more chilli-like, wrapped up in gentle smoke.

Overall: An unusual Talisker with the rum cask influence, and absolutely one to add to the must-try list.

Reviews for Talisker 8 Year Old (Special Release 2020)
An on-paper potentially good idea executed in the worst possible way - via marketing.
This is an extremely alcohol heavy coarse expression. Those who talk about rum cask finishing are kidding themselves.
There is nothing refined about this - if anything it tastes like newmake.
In no way worth the inflated price tag.
At all.

This is special.
Incredibly well rounded whisky. You get what you pay for. A very well executed twist on the normal talisker peppery taste.
