A cheeky little single cask Strathisla from Malt of The Earth - one of their first bottlings. Distilled in 2005, 418 bottles were produced at 46% in 2014 after 9 years in a refill hogshead. It will come as no surprise that the colour is natural here (it's also not chill filtered) - but don't be put off by the pale hue at all either, this is delightfully drinkable stuff. Speculoos (sweet and spiced, ginger and nutmeg biscuityness) and fresh apple.

After opening the bottle, the first thing you notice is the smell of calvados, and you quickly realise that this bottling is something special. Once past the nose, the flavour of dried, spiced fruits comes through and is a bit of a surprise given its pale colour! The lingering gingery spice leaves you wanting more. Its eminent drinkability means you have to be vigilant not to finish off a great deal in one sitting! Yet another fine outing from the Malt of the Earth crew.
