Stauning
An intriguing release from Denmark's Stauning, dubbed KAOS! Made from a blend of three of its own whiskies, it showcases its bourbon-matured single malt, malted rye and peated single malt, the result is far from chaotic, full of chocolate, delicate smoke and dried fruit.
I'll be honest, I bought this because the bottle looked cool. But what a gorgeous little gem. There's a real fresh sweetness to this. The apples are huge. But there's also a decent richness to it as well. A 2nd bottle has been purchased!
Nose: Bread, yes bread. Its sinks into moist oak. Wow. Palate: Mid to light mouthfeel. There is a two tier palate, light sponge cake that drags aged cinnamon along, not classic but raw shaving and then pivots back to chippings. All this without a hint of issues. After: Peppered wood...but screw that, the palate doesn't stop delivering. Phenomenal.
Excellent danish whisky, youthfull with a scent of smoke
