Seaweed &... Sherry Casks

Peat and sherry is a great combo, though sometimes it can be a bit like a shouting match between a foghorn and a washing machine full of pots and pans. Thankfully, this one shows off a welcome harmony between the two. It's a marvellous variation of Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire, featuring the same smoky 10 year old Islay single malt, though instead of just 25% of it being finished in sherry casks, the entirety of the whisky was finished in them. The powerfully peaty notes at its core are mellowed by just enough sherry sweetness, making for a superbly well-balanced flavour profile.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Oatcakes, vegetal peat, hot Ribena, assorted BBQ meats, molasses, clove-studded orange, and just a hint of chocolate mousse.

Palate Cinder toffee, cinnamon, peat still shining through, a slow build of red grape and jammy raisin, with some citrus lift. A subtle touch of singed hay later on.

Finish Meaty malt returns, with warm oak in support. The red grape tannins continue and last on the finish.

Overall A top expression that shows what can happen when peat and sherry meet without clashing against each other.

Reviews for Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire & Sherry Casks 10 Year Old
Very disappointing.
Very underwhelming.
I bought 3 for 2 bottles when on offer having been delighted with the excellent cask strengths offering.
This didn't feel anywhere near. It felt overly diluted, bland, and totally underwhelming. No length in the finish. Once swallowed, instantly forgotten.

Wish I had alcohol measuring equipment, I doubt that was 40%.

Very under underwhelmed.
Expecting a big sherry smoky hit, but all I got was a washed out, diluted smoked whisky. Very dull, very weak, very bland. Can't believe it's 40%avb in the bottle it's that weak. Very disappointed. Sorry I could only give it half a star.

Definitely a hit. The sherry cask gives it a gentle sweetness to offset the peat smokeyness.
I love the peat smoke - as long as its not too much which can give an undesirable TCP flavour - and this version balances it out well.
Have had a couple of different varieties of S&A&D&F and they don't disappoint

Beautiful winter warmer
Being a great fan of seaweed & aeons & digging & fire I thought I would try this for Christmas and by golly it’s good. The sweetness from the sherry cask’s somehow avoids clashing with the smoke and peat and adds another layer to the palette which to mere beginner improves on the original

WHISKY EXPERT DENTIST
Mine is an uneducated palate but I was advised by my whisky expert dentist. After a detailed examination he recommended the above which I am thoroughly enjoying.
