Boasting more aeons than its 10-year-old relative, here we have a 17-year-old edition of Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire! This heavily peated single malt hails from the Highland whisky region, unlike its Islay cousins, but still has all the smoky fire of other Seaweed bottlings. With a portion of the whisky matured in oloroso sherry casks, there are hearty layers of toffee and stone fruits too. This one boasts a particularly meaty, malty profile that works a treat with the robust, coastal smoke.
Cinder toffee and vegetal charred peat, big bold oak and sea spray give way to aromatic cedar, burnt vanilla cream, and crisp wafers.
Creamy and mouthcoating, with waves of vanilla quickly developing into meaty, peaty malt. There are salty, herbaceous notes of fennel salami supported by grilled stone fruits and baked apples, while hearty, spicy warmth develops beneath.
Robust roasted barley, buttered malt loaf, and rich oak char linger, backed by trickles of salted caramel, peppered peach, and herbaceous smoke.
Having bought several bottles of this branding marketed as an Islay which were amazing value for money this was a huge disappointment. Yes I know it is a Highland and I didn't expect the smokey, peatiness of an Islay, I drink Highland malts and appreciate their qualities. This however lacked in character had little body and little or no finish. If it cost £30 - 40 it might be acceptable but at double that even with the prime discount I can't recommend it.
Smoke and sweet creaminess, over a touch of fruit. It’s wonderful neat, but a splash of water takes it to another level. I’m normally all about Islay, but, to my taste, this 17 year old Highland is simply a beautiful dram.
Really enjoying this. Lovely, deep, smokey and just enough sweet. I love that it's a highland not an Islay but if you tend to like Islay's then this will really hit the spot!
Really solid whisky, just a bit too much barrel charing for my personal taste but still very decent and if you like burnt embers etc this one’s right up your street
