American oak cask matured Scapa single malt Scotch whisky finished in casks that previously held smoky, peated whisky! Scapa describe Glansa as a gentle introduction to the world of peated whisky.
Fruity sweet notes of soft peach, pineapple, vanilla intermingled with subtle bonfire smoke.
Peach and ripe flavours and creamy caramel toffee and vanilla balanced perfectly with soft smoke.
Very long with a markedly smoky finish.
Had a batch 1 at Christmas friend and I found it to be a smooth and tasty and left us craving more recommend drink my number 2 drink still can't beat Highland park 18
I'm not usually a fan of smokey whiskies as usually the smoke is all you get and not much else. This is the first peat influenced whisky I have tried that I love! Very well balanced between the gently smoke influence and sweet, fruity flavours. When most Islay malts are like being in a bonfire, this Orcadian dram is like someone smoking a cigar in the room next door. Will definitely stock up!
Not bad by any means and I quite happily drank the whole bottle but I found this one to be entirely underwhelming. I think that there is far better out there in the same price bracket and feel it is pretty overpriced.
I love that Scapa's branching out and putting this new offering out on the market! It's deeply true to the characteristic malt profile of the distillery - fruity (peach, pear, pineapple especially), lightly honeyed, medium bodied with a sweet vanilla presence. The addition of light whiff of smoke into the mix through the secondary cask finish is a smart move, and it gives just the right dose of smoke...too much and the delicacy of the classic Scapa style would be lost, but this is lovely. I'm hopeful both that...1. They'll start selling this in the US soon, and 2. That it's just the beginning of delicious, new offerings from a great, often overlooked distillery!
Nice clean flavour, the smokey hints are very subtle and come late in the aftertaste. Not quite on par with the 16 year old, but not much is IMO. A nice smooth dram with a bit character. A good choice for newcomers.
