Scapa Glansa

American oak cask matured Scapa single malt Scotch whisky finished in casks that previously held smoky, peated whisky! Scapa describe Glansa as a gentle introduction to the world of peated whisky.

Tasting Note by The Producer

Nose Fruity sweet notes of soft peach, pineapple, vanilla intermingled with subtle bonfire smoke.

Palate Peach and ripe flavours and creamy caramel toffee and vanilla balanced perfectly with soft smoke.

Finish Very long with a markedly smoky finish.

Reviews for Scapa Glansa
Not smoky or peaty, for my taste.
Not especially smoky or peaty, but the dark colour and flavour are very distinctive. It's my second favourite after the Skiren.

Clean, simple, smooth
Nice, a bit bourbony ( if that’s a word). I must be missing something because I don’t get a lot of peat. If there was an option for halfs, would give it 3.5.

one of my go tos
Fresh and clear. Among my favourites, but slightly overpriced. I enjoyed the visit at the distillery.

Watery and lacking a decent body. Disappointing.
I used to really enjoy this malt but either my palates changes or Scapa has altered something in the latest batches. The last two bottles I've had have been very watery, with no body at all. There's far better malts out there for the price. Poor.

Nice finish. Dessert.
Soft smoke, candy, sweet on the finish, mildly smoky.

Not bad and special.
I am not quiet sure what tout say about this whisky. It is actually very sweet with a delicate smocky finish, but the taste is a bit watery and the flavour not strong enough. Considering the price, you have better than this.

Radio 2 whisky
The 'radio 2' of whisky, nothing wrong with it and nothing special either. Quite enjoyable in fact.

To be honest I struggle to detect any smoke or peat, however it has a very pleasant balance and is well made. Price is fair, this is much better than (for instance) Highland Park 12, but obviously cannot match HP 18 which sells at 2.5 x the price. Shame Scapa is 16 no long made.

Packaging is excellent - would make a thoroughly decent present for someone just starting into Whisky.

A superior young, clean peaty one
We bought a bottle Glansa at the distillery at Scapa Flow last week vacation on the Orkneys, took it home to the Netherlands - a land of sea, peat and smoke too - and I absolutely love the Glansa for it's subtility. However.. we like the more outspoken taste of peat, smook and seaweed from Laphroigh even so, or a little better. If there are fellow-tastes from Scapa, we are much interested!
