Raasay While We Wait (First Release)

Sorry about this...

We can't actually ship Raasay While We Wait (First Release) to the United States at the moment (although we're working hard to fix that).

In the meantime, our friends over at The Whisky Shop might be able to help you out.

Thank you for your support and understanding 🙂

Rassay While We Wait 1st Bottling Note

The Raasay distillery on the tiny Hebridean island of Rasaay is quite a long way off at the time of writing (plans are set for it to open in 2015), but the folks behind it are more than eager to show off their whisky-making chops and have released the Rasaay While We Wait single malt. What they've done here is blend two single malts from the same undisclosed distillery, one peated and one unpeated, then finish it in Tuscan wine casks!

Raasay While We Wait (First Release) Reviews

Is it just me or does anyone else get leather? Sure, I get some smoke and peat but it finishes off with leather BIG TIME. Either way definitely unique yet not smooth. Whack it back in the barrel for another 10 years and see what happens. At the same time though good to see a distillery pushing the boundaries.

Smooth & light dram

Sweet & smooth start with a fruity and light smoke finish, a great wee dram and easily used as an in-between as you move through to more peatier malts. Reminds me of some of the younger Caol Ila malts.

Fantastic drink, great flavour I would recommend it.

Good but overpriced

A very smooth and balanced combination (mustn't say blend!) of two malt expressions with a great fruity nose and long on the tongue. But it is a marketing ploy to talk up the future Raasay and, however enjoyable, probably not worth paying the premium price. Lovely to receive as a gift though!

Spot On.

Smooth, hint of peat with faint smoke and berries taste.

This is a wonderful whiskey. Very smooth on the palate, yet with a peaty note and citrus. Really really good. Thank you, Glenys, for getting it for me

Not Rough at All

I want to revise my review. I realise now my pallet was jaded as I had a terrible viral infection.

I wrote below, on 16th December, that it was fiery and rough. I thoroughly retract that statement. It is a bit fiery but it is utterly delicious too. It is smooth and full of interesting notes. A wonderful malt whisky.

Tasted this during a tasting at the Scottish Whisky Experience. I loved it. Tastes rosy and smoky. But I always loved smoky Whiskies. The other people I was with did not really like it so I guess it is an acquired taste. Certainly not for everyone. I would advise a sample/dram before buying a bottle.

Fiery and Rough

I think it probably needs to be left at the back of the cupboard for another 10 years. It struck me as rough, with no smooth edges anywhere. Not a whisky you would want to roll about your mouth. Fiery and rough is how I would describe it. I have never had anything quite like it!
