Powers John's Lane 12yo

A single pot still release of Powers whiskey. It's matured in a combination of bourbon and oloroso sherry casks, and named after the distillery where it was first made, now sadly closed.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Barley, copper, fresh oak, leather, and juicy fruit.

Palate Very smooth with vanilla, dry spice, chocolate and coffee. There is dark fruit here too, raisins and blackcurrants.

Finish More vanilla and drying copper notes.

Overall A very well balanced whiskey with not a note out of place. Lovely.

Fabulous
Magnificent. Got this in Australia cheaper than redbreast and I would take this any day. Excellent across the board from nose to finish. Rich complex but still approachable. Everything I could ask for in a whiskey

So good
One of the nicest tasting whiskies I've had, it's so rich and luscious with dense flavours

Age does tenderise its NAS original
N: Theres a marsala hint and weirdly a silvermint sweet hint...and these are distracting enough to be your nose.
P: Sponge pepper, air pocketed but the sphere commands.
A: Light and closes soon enough.

Gorgeous
This arrived at the second time of asking, thanks to DPD for breaking the first bottle. I’m not a connoisseur or an expert of any description when it comes to whiskeys, I like what I like.
This is simply gorgeous, lovely caramel and butterscotch flavours with a long lingering warmth.
I’m a fan of Red Breast, to me, this is just a tiny bit better.
I’ll be back for more, ready for Christmas, if we have one !

as a lover of redbreast 12, im not sure i dont prefer this
lots of fruit in here along with bourbon styled vanilla and pepper. blackcurrent, sherry and the odd metallic note. a half teaspoon tops of 02 opens and smooths this even further.
as a lover of redbreast 12, im not sure i dont prefer this.... never thought i'd say that.

Extraordinary
I've been on a quest to try as much as Irish whiskey as I can get my hands on and this might just be my favorite I've tried so far. Now I am already a fan of all the Power's whiskies but this has to be the best of the bunch and I think the sherry influence is really what sets it apart. On the nose honey, yogurt and juicy red berries with a hint of caramelized sugar. On the palate loads of vanilla yogurt with raisins , caramelized banana, a bit of baking spices as well as some milk chocolate with a nice medium-long finish and oily mouthfeel. Spectacular example of the Irish pot still style finished in a sherry cask. And it's bottled at 46% giving you the ability to add some water and really open it up. Remarkable stuff , Power's never dissapoints. Slainte!

Punches well above its weight
I have ordinarily steered clear of Single Pot Still whiskey because of an aversion to the concept of un-malted barley. This may have been a fallacy. Of course there will be differences compared to wholly-malted barley styles. Having said that, I am more open minded to different taste profiles as a result of germination or otherwise. There is only one word to describe P.J.L.R. 12., ------------Delectable!
