Port Ellen 33 Year Old - Batch 6 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)

Port Ellen 33yo #6 TBWC Bottling Note

It's the sixth batch of Port Ellen independently bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company, and the first to boast an age statement on its label - this right here is a 33 year old single malt from the legendary closed Islay distillery! Also on the label is Jon Beach of Fiddler's Whisky Bar, looking wistfully out to sea with his trusty filling pipe by his side. Who's that on the shore? Why, it's Ben and Jake carrying out some iPed traditions. But wait, isn't that Jake taking the SS Malt out for a spin on the calm seas too?!

Batch 6 is a release of 250 bottles.

‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains and bourbons from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blended malts and blends. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Earthy peat with a portion of BBQ'd meat at the core. Flamed orange peel, classic chamois and lemon sherbets (as featured on the label). Further complexity is added by hints of blackberry bushes, cough syrup, aloe, honey, dark Fruit Pastilles... We could keep going.

Palate: Thick and mouthcoating with charred pineapple, oak and Sichuan pepper. Oily barley, smoky vanilla pods and further helpings of creamy tropical and citrus sweetness. Sublime.

Finish: Rye, more BBQ'd pineapple, ash, Juicy Fruit and toasted brown sugar. Very long.

Overall: Simply jaw-dropping stuff.

Oof!
What they said - and more! Loads of peat smoke, oak and lemon sherbet all the way from nose to finish.

A taste of history
A lot going on here and very complex... just fantastic stuff, incredibly smooth and would say its not overhyped at all given the nature of this closed distillery. Too bad stocks of these are dwindling by the day.
