Port Ellen 22 Year Old 1979 - 1st Release (Special Release 2001)
Today Port Ellen is a whisky legend, thanks to a myriad of reasons in the early 1980s the distillery was closed. However, this was no judgement on its character or of it's quality, and when the barrels left maturing in warehouses reached old age the world was left with very old, irreplaceable whisky that also tastes, quite frankly, amazing. In 2001 Diageo who own the remaining stock bottled the first of what would become annual releases of Port Ellen. This is the first of those releases and is very rare and very collectable
This bottle was part of a private collection.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Soft peat rises out of the glass with tangy sea salt and green grape aromas.
Palate
The palate is bold but not over powering; clean menthol and peaty iodine roll around with refreshing clarity.
Finish
It seems infinite, it is like the Islay shoreline is lapping at the back of your mouth as sweet vanilla, smoke and menthol swirl about.
Overall
Superb balance and immensely potent. There is a reason why Port Ellen is so popular other than its value and rarity.
