Pearse Lyons Original
Pearse The Original is the entry level expression from the core range of the Pearse Lyons Distillery. It was inspired by the church of St. James and intended to be the kind of tipple the founder’s uncles Eddie and Robert, both coopers, would have enjoyed on a cold winter night in a nearby pub. It’s a blended Irish whiskey that was drawn entirely from ex-bourbon barrel stock, bottled at 42% ABV with no chill-filtration or additional colouring.
It actually includes some in-house malt whiskey in the blend even though the Dublin distillery hasn’t been running for a minimum of three years. This is because the parent company Alltech had a precursor distillery/brewery running in County Carlow.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Honey toasted oats, lemon sherbets and dry grass lead. Toasted oak and dry nutmeg aromas arise among mellow malt and vanilla elements.
Palate
Crisp smooth spice trickles through milk chocolate and caramel shortbread. A hot flash of spearmint emerges among ripe apples and dry oak.
Finish
Creamy vanilla and buttery malt linger.
Overall
Soft, well balanced and very rewarding.
