Old Forester 1920 - Prohibition Style
Did you know that Old Forester was one of just six distilleries in Kentucky that were granted a permit to continue to make bourbon for medicinal purposes during Prohibition? Even more remarkably, it is the only Kentucky bourbon to be continuously sold by the same company, before, during, and after the passing of The Volstead Act of 1920.
Back then, the new make spirit had to go into the barrel at 100 proof (50% ABV), which created a 115 proof (57.5% ABV) whiskey after maturation, so as a homage to that, Old Forester created Prohibition Style Bourbon.
