Oban 21 Year Old (Special Release 2018)
A 21 year old single malt from the Oban distillery, unveiled as part of the 2018 Diageo Special Releases line-up. Oban bottlings outside of its core range are few and far between, so it's always exciting to see something new from the distillery in the Highlands. This expression was drawn from European refill oak butts, bottled at cask strength.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Super green and fresh: aromas of rocket leaf, asparagus and an outdoor-ish petrichor. Then there's a burst of zesty orange juice, rich tea biscuits and a red fruit kick. There's a floral quality, too.
Palate
This time it opens with blood orange and raspberry, before there's cinnamon spice, pepper and a nuttiness that smooths the whole thing out.
Finish
Really quite long and defined by that juicy orange vibe.
Overall
A real chameleon of a whisky – and a delicious one at that. It changes a LOT in the glass and you get all kinds coming through. Intriguing indeed.
