A full-bodied, sherried single malt from Mortlach, matured for 16 years and released as part of the Flora and Fauna series.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Please note there is some minor damage to the label
The nose is quite fresh and floral, with developing smoke. Notes of rubber spearmint leaves and gentle smoke with a hint of warm kippers. The palate is very well-balanced and the flavours firm and full. Notes of heather root and gentle wafting smoke with toffee sweetness. Juicy and thoroughly chewy sultanas and mixed peels with a hint of amontillado. The finish is long and well-smoked with oaken warmth.
The best
Usually can't stand sherry aged whisky but this is subtle. I always get a bottle of this when I see it and now boycott Diageo for what they've done to the brand.
So sad that it is discontinued. I haven't yet tried the new perfume-bottle bottlings—they're considerably more expensive.
And there is my rating. one of the best.
Have had the pleasure of drinking a few bottles of this stuff in the past couple of years. Really excellent dram. Big on the sherry and I got spiced fruit notes with the noticeable speyside citrus peel. Going out of stock now, prices have gone up and i feel lucky to have found this gem of a distillery.
