Gordon & MacPhail
Scotland
Single Malt

This is a 10 year old single malt from the Miltonduff distillery, independently bottled by Gordon & MacPhail for the Discovery series. Each of the Discovery bottlings comes presented in livery which places it in one of three flavour profile categories; 'Sherry', 'Smoky' or 'Bourbon'. This one falls into that first category - it's a delicious sherried treat!
Toffee apples, rum-soaked raisins and fresh malt.
Chocolate and butterscotch bring sweetness, while a touch of clove gives it some well-needed warmth.
Blackberry jam and cinnamon.

Producer's tasting notes:Sweet and spicy: comforting butter candies weave with roasted hazelnut, etc(?!) Really: ethyl alcohol; cork; many disorderly spices. Really price is 19,50 Akashi is better and many others
The Miltonduff 10 from G&M is a good sherry matured Scotch similar to the Glendronach 12. It is an elegant and soft but still fairly rich single malt, G&M had better bottled this at 46% abv thought because some great flavors seem muted and watered down a bit. It is however a great Scotch for people looking for an easy going inoffensive soft but rich sherried whisky and something a little different then the usual Glenfarclas 12, Glendronach 12 and Aberlour 12 standard sherry influenced suspects. This is a very well rounded whisky, you can argue it lacks some depth and it tries to please everyones palet but all in all this is a very well done sherried whisky. I would have rated it higher then 4 stars but it is not a unique character, a bit overpriced and arguably inferior compared to some similair competitors.
I'd bought the Balblair, and was delighted with it, so went back to G&M's to buy the Miltonduff. A truly wonderful expression, that doesn't fail to deliver. I have an unashamedly sweet tooth, so this was an excellent choice for me. The touch of spice works as an excellent counter point, and I had to stop myself from having "just one more"! Not for everyone, but well worth trying.
OMG. This is amazing!! Bought today from Royal Mile Whiskies and recommended by the very knowledgeable assistant (American lady). She said it was like drinking dark chocolate. It is totally like drinking a 70% dark chocolate. The nose is dark chocolate. The first mouthful is so soft with a huge chocolate kick. Finish not too long leaves you with the chocolate after taste and makes you return for another hit of the soft chocolate taste. Excellent ??
