This single pot still Irish whiskey from Micil was matured in a combo of Madeira wine casks and quarter casks that previously held peated whiskey. Generous notes of sweet stone fruits and citrus are supported by gentle, vegetal peat for a vibrant, characterful sipper.
Zesty notes of flamed orange peel, burnt biscuits, woody cinnamon and clove.
Silky caramel, spiced citrus, milk chocolate, peach and apricot, with spiced nuts in tow.
Candied orange, more stone fruits, peppercorns, a touch of ginger, and subtly sweet peat smoke.

I'm a big fan of Single Pot Still whiskey and Irish whiskey overall. It's unusual to find a Madeira cask finish in single pot still so this one definitely stands out. This is a fine example of a pot still that has all the lovely spice, fruit and texture of a pot still Irish whiskey. It's a lovely easy sipper that doesn't need too much contemplation - lots of fruit, candied citrus peel, sweet spices, christmas pudding notes, chocolate and a really smooth experience overall.
