Description

We've got our very own blended Scotch whisky - it's even got our name on it and everything! If you're looking for an approachable blend that packs plenty of runny toffee, honeyed apple and vanilla pod notes alongside just a subtle whisper of peat, then Master of Malt Blended Scotch Whisky is exactly what you're after. More than suitable for enjoying simply as a postprandial dram, or perhaps even using in cocktails if you fancy whipping one up...

Nose

Honeyed grains and green fruit freshness, with rich vanilla building underneath. A hint of meaty malt tucked away, too.

Palate

Bright and fresh on the palate, with more honeyed notes shining through. Subtly grassy at points, leading to a gentle waft of coastal peat.

Finish

Lingering notes of rounded barley stick around on the finish.

Overall

A tasty dram that's up-front with its flavour profile, though with some complexity to mull over on the way.

Heavy peat and smoke

Great blend, stronger flavours than many dare. Slightly too easy to drink.

More Peat Than Expected

The tasting notes do not mention the peat, which dominated the nose for me. And was thus not what I was expecting or like. It's a bit rough in the blend, not married together well. So there is a harshness that may lend itself to mixes better. Just not the dram for me.

A More-ish Dram

The boys done good. This is a nice blend - pricey for a blend but it is 42% so I'll let that lie. A tiny drop of water does wonders - it lets the parched earth bloom. You get a whiff of peat inside an old fashioned sweet shop - more pear drop and soor ploom than barley sugar but maybe a hint of dolly mixtures too. Hessian at the finish. A more-ish dram.
