One of the fine offerings from Swedish distillery Mackmyra. This is their smoky, peaty expression, hence the name Svensk Rök, which means Swedish Smoke. It's unequivocally fragrant and rich, with hints of vanilla, oak and even juniper smoke wafting in.
Earthy peat, warm smoke, vanilla fudge and a whisper of citrus.
There's that bright juniper note! Sweet soot, and just a little more vanilla to give it a subtle sweet centre.
Plenty of oak and smoke last on the finish.
Ooh yes, fans of Islay whisky will want to have a taste of this unique whisky.
Yes please... Lovely sweet bourbon wood and real peatyness. Fine balance between smoke and wood. Not so smoky nose but a good bite in the mouth. Perfect level of smoke. If you like smoky whisky, this is for you. If you don't like smoky whisky, this is for you.
This is a very competent non chill filtered whisky that really gives you the money worth ! The nose is a very welcoming sooty log that just has burned out. The intruiging peaty nose (that is worth nosing a long long time),gives away pinecones with juniper and a Swedish fairytale forest from which it once arose. The taste is very smooth and lipsmacking and it gets better. The aftertaste shows hints of some mint(?)and a nice touch of freshly grounded pepper. A whisky for the long loving fans of the peat.
I'm a fan of this Swedish Distillery and always look out for the Mackmyra stand at the UK Whisky shows, and first tried this in October 2013 at the TWE Whisky Show. I was recently been reacquainted with it after a recent trip to Stockholm and thought I'd share my thoughts here. Nose: Sweet with a subtle peat smoke note that gently interrupts the green ferns and gorse bushes. There's some 'mulled wine' spices which seem to bring some berry fruits into play too. Taste: Initially sweet with liquorice and aniseed coming first for me. Slowly spices build with a touch of clove and some heat as a fragrant smoke starts to come through. Finish: Wood smoke lingers with hints of aniseed. Personally, I love it!
