Mackmyra's core expression is a light Swedish whisky matured primarily in first fill bourbon barrels but also includes whisky aged in Sherry and Swedish oak casks too as well as some smokier malt, which all adds to the complexity.
Nose: Fresh, delicate fruit aromas with vanilla pods. Pine nuts, pine needles, raspberry bushes and mixed peels. Ryvita and Sesame Snaps.
Palate: Vanilla cream, custard even and more fruit. Red berries, boiled sweets and rich, warming bourbon.
Finish: Spicy oak and apple pie whilst remaining light and nimble.
Overall: Tremendous easy-drinking single malt whisky from Sweden.

I just finished the last sips of an original bottle, 1st Edition. Numbered bottle. What a joy. An absolutely delightful whisky. This is not scotch or Irish whiskey. It's in a class by itself. Light, refreshing, very easy on the tongue.

I want more!!!

Day 5 in the Whiskey Advent Calendar.. 2016 Sweden scores!! A nice mellow whisky. I guess because it doesn't PUNCH you in the face with an abundance of peat and wood, most think it's bad?To me it reminds me of a nice Irish whisky?! A little oak, vanilla, a tiny bit of leather and caramel. Not bad, but good! Definitely not horrible!? If I were in Sweden, I would drink it!

Taste of bourbon and spice, very simple. Nose: honey, light raspberry

like drinking water.

Sharing the advent dram with the husband. My husband would rate lower saying this is just a level above moonshine (with a slight vanilla taste) as it has in his opinion an almost immature corn taste which he is sure is not the intent of the distillers. After letting it breathe a bit I am a bit kinder- can note a small bit of fruit but it is quite painful on the back end. Maybe another 6 years in a barrel might smooth this offering out.

I would call this a bridging whisky. Are you a fan of Irish Whisky? Then this is a great way to start moving toward Scotch. Are you a fan of Scotch? Then this is a great way to start moving toward Irish Whisky. However, it does neither very well. I enjoyed it for what it was, easy to drink, almost forgettable, very slight fruit and pine on the nose, with a smooth sweet mouth. Slight hints of spice, but not a lot, and then it just disappears.Final Note: I am doing the 2015 advent calendar. As a result, I get one drink at it to decide if I like it enough to buy more. Sometimes I need to drink something three or four times to make up my mind. Thus, my rating is based on a one-time drink experience.

Very one-dimensional. Odd nose, with baked bread notes overwhelming any fruits. A drop of water brings the bakers yeast to the front even more. A bit of spice on the tongue, but nary a hint of vanilla. A bit of spice on the finish. Not my style -- second lowest score from my advent calendar.

Super Smooooth with a spicy finish......
What a great drinking whisky.

There are some harsh reviews here. Not everything needs to be super complex to be really enjoyable. This is delicious, sweet and smooth with strong hints of vanilla. Indeed, there is no smoke and it isn't missed.

I bought a bottle of this after reading many rave reviews - clearly, they all a very different batch to the one going around these days. My the whisky in my bottle was incredibly simple and one-dimensional. No hint of smoke of any kind, no complexity, nothing really worth writing about. For the price, this is a massive disappointment and doesn't in any way match what I have read about it previously. I guess demand caught up to the Swedes quickly: this is simply awful, undermatured, overpriced whisky. Save your money indeed.

I'm on my second bottle of this. The first, bought about 18 months ago, was excellent. This second bottle is very disappointing. Nearly all the complexity has gone. Very short finish. What has happened?
23rd June 2015
Very delicate whisky but is simply not complex enough to get excited about. I'd recommend Penderyn over this as it has a similar delicate sweet palate but fat more complex. Same price too.

That's all really - very delicate but not enough complexity to pull that off. Ultimately boring and overpriced for what it is...
5th January 2015
Save your money for a Scottish one. Just one plain whisky without much complexity.
5th December 2014
This was a MASSIVE disappointment... I was utterly underwhelmed by this whisky. There's nothing really to say, other than there are some MUCH better whiskies around, especially those from India and Japan, which completely blow this out of the water. Save your money.
10th June 2014
You will enjoy this more than you expect.
19th February 2014
Open your mind person above. There's some great whiskies being made around the world now. Embrace this fact and you might just enjoy yourself a little more.
17th December 2013
Really light and smooth with a sweet finish. Excellent!
Blown away by this... Very different nose from what I'm used to. Reminded me a little of a Knockandu in the nose, green apples, almost calvados in its aroma, lots of pear drops. Taste lacked depth, almost like a thick oaked Chardonnay, but rather moreish!

this is not whisky...
11th December 2013
Tried it for the first time with new friends from Sweden. An excellent sipping whiskey, smooth and with multi-layered of flavor
4th November 2013
Really easy drinking indeed, very complex for such a young age
