Forget everything you think you know about Lowland whisky. This single cask from Lochlea proves the region has plenty of punch when treated right. Aged for five years in an Islay cask and bottled at a cask strength 54% ABV, this release delivers smouldering complexity layered over ripe orchard fruit and creamy nuttiness. One of just 410 bottles, hand-picked by Lochlea’s master blender Jill Boyd.
Green apple skin and driftwood embers up front, followed by BBQ pineapple, buttery shortbread and soft green pepper. There’s a subtle coastal breeze running through it that's salty, herbal and inviting.
Bright citrus, barbecued lime and warm runny honey open the show. Then creamy hazelnuts and smoky birchwood come in, with a twist of cracked black pepper and orchard fruit underneath. It’s like toasted marshmallows over a campfire by the sea.
Sweet smoke fades into sherbet candy (flying saucers!), bitter orange peel and a tickle of sea salt.
