Loch Lomond Original Bottling Note

A satisfying, subtly peated single malt Scotch whisky from Loch Lomond. The distillery is renowned for being able to produce a multitude of whisky styles, including single malt (like the one you see before your eyes right now), single grain and blends. Versatile and talented, those Loch Lomond distillers...

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Caramel, oily walnut, a touch of dusty oak smokiness.

Palate: Digestive biscuits and ginger snaps. Subtle vegetal notes develop later on.

Finish: Diced almond, coffee bean, toasted malt.

Loch Lomond Original Reviews

Book by the Cover

I have to say... packaged with an outer Box and sealed with a "cork" cap, it fooled me on presentation... truth is, its priced right.. you are not getting a good scotch for 25 dollars #SorryNotSorry
BUT I'd buy again if I was strapped on cash

Compare to Another

I'll admit for 25 bucks you can't complain too much.. I would compare it to a lesser quality "Robert Burns"... the smokiness is there but the sour malts flavor tends to take over.. I would buy it if I was REALLY monitoring my spending on alcohol

Quite like it. but not as smooth or delicate as my usual! Personally the heather puts me off. But I’m a spay side guy

The flavour is complex, but although it’s initially smooth, you can tell it’s a highland. The light peat is hardly noticeable, and there’s flavours brought in by the heather.

Smooth and soft

Very light on the palate.

Arriving by the low road.

Well, on the nose I’m getting baby sick. On the tongue, hints of chewed cardboard, however the finish is a disappointment. Shades of the night. A cold, wet one with a poor quality hotdog. I’m not keen.

24th December 2019

Good for the right price.

Totally worth it for under 35 dollars. If your paying more than that, then skip this one and buy a 40 dollar bottle of somethings familiar. It’s clean and offers a good value at this price point. Ginger, light smoke, sherry, sweetness, slightly sour malt, warming, peach, etc.

12th December 2019

Not amazing, it's alright.

It wouldn't be that bad if it didn't have a yucky aftertaste. Not a savoring scotch and not one you should roll around your mouth for long.

28th November 2019

A good one

A really good single malt. Smooth but not weak. Well balanced and slightly smoky. I’m going to buy it again for sure.

27th November 2019

Brilliant and not just for the price.

I usually drink big OTT Islay malts but they can get a bit much sometimes. This is easy to drink without being too smooth, still has a bit of smokiness and bite to it. A proper single malt Scotch for when Irish is too smooth and Islay malts feel a bit too difficult. I really like this.

Hints of smokiness, peat and spice. A pleasant Malt.

Purchased for £18.99. I wouldn't have bought this particular Malt were it not a close price match to some well-recognised blended whiskies. Bought therefore as a bit of a "punt" I found this Malt to be light bodied with hints of sweetness, smokiness, spice with caramel notes. It is a pleasant, un-aged Malt however the lingering intensities of spice and it's medicinal taste could be subdued with a splash of water to make it palatable for some.

A lot of personality. I buy it a thousand times more!

For $25, cant go wrong.

I am not a pro at this stuff. I have had a few whiskeys and I just judge on what I drink. I'd have to say that this is good whiskey for $25. It's very smooth in my opinion. Flavor is fine. Not too strong. Not too bland. I prefer this too some blends for sure. Better than Jamo, maybe on par with like a JW black. I recently had Ardbeg 10 year and to me it's awful. Just way too smokey. This whiskey is fine for an average drinker like me.

Loch Lomond is my one & only single malt scotch,

A satisfying, smooth, flavorful single malt scotch-my favorite for over a year now. I sampled several single malts over the years, & narrowed it down to The Glen Livet. I'd purchase it only @ intermittent dates, due to its relatively high cost for a guy such as myself that's retired. I was then introduced to Loch Lomond-initially skeptical @ its substantially lower price-approximately 1/2 of The G.L. From the outset, for the very 1st time, I encountered a single that was just as good, & by the time I'd opened my second bottle, I had to confess that I actually liked it better; a bit smoother & the tinge of peat put it over the top for me. The cost was not a factor @ all in liking it better, but it's truly a fringe benefit.!!

Good whisky, worth a try.

This single malt gets me tipsy rather rapid, and it does it deceptively. The taste keeps you coming back for more.

It has an amazing flavour on the rocks, on it's own, and mixed. I enjoy it that much, that I'm going to be buying this whisky again.

Worth a try if you can buy around £20

A decent every day single malt (depending on the price you pay for it) for when you're needing a wee dram to help wind down after a hard day's graft.

For me, it's not a £25 bottle but worth a try to judge for yourself. I got lucky buying one from the Cash & Carry 'Malt of the Month' deal at £13.99 + vat so it was very good value buy.

See review

For over 12 years now once introduced to an array of single malt scotch exposures, I could never find one as perfect for my palate as Glen Livet. It for years stood as my benchmark, but it's nearly $50.00 cost & being retired, limited my being able to stock it. That was until I tried Loch Lomond 12 year single malt scotch. Not only did it match Glen Livet @ every intersection of critique, it eclipsed it; &, @ 1/2 the cost.!! Whether it's a lady, a job, or scotch..when I find it, I get it.! No need to look further-well perhaps that lady, but Loch Lomond's my scotch.

Better than expected

Surprisingly smooth with a hint of warmth on the palate. Not overly sweet but just enough to put a smile on your face. Good value

10th February 2019

I expected more from this distillery with such a turnout and diversity in range. Little flavour and such an amount of (added?) peatiness that it burns your throat in one sip. Had to add water. Drinking a bottle will make you sing like Joe Cocker I suppose. No age statement given. JWW

13th August 2018

Not bad at all

First time I've tried it nice taste and smooth a one I'll buy again

1st May 2018

Deeply disappointing. May be good for use in cocktails, but lacks flavour and depth for those who enjoy their whisky neat.

24th February 2018

OK whisky for price

A very different taste to be a whisky. Weak, but still you can feel its single malt. Good price.

Bargain £20 in Mc Colls Elgin Hogmanay 2017 . Beautiful bottle feel of quality . Lovely smooth dream like a Speyside . Seems more expensive than it is . Well worth seeking out . Our visitors are impressed

Not worth the money - a cheaper, harsher Glenfiddich 12

On the nose it's quite similar to Glenfiddich 12, fruity, very fresh. The taste on the palette is quite similar however it's much more harsh and bitey but not in a good way. The bite and harshness makes it feel like it was rushed/uses younger whiskeys. Not to mention this has no age statement so I wouldn't be suprised. The Loch Lomond Reserve has a much more rounded and satisfying flavour and also feels better on the palette and finish - however it is a blend, so if you aren't a single malt snob, give the Reserve a go.

Bang for your Buck

A good value scotch.
As someone who is a bigger fan of Bourbon and Irish Whisky this is one of my favourite value whisky's. I'm sure there are a lot of people in a similar situation who will find that information valuable.

19th September 2017

Full of taste but rather odd taste...

This is a good allround whisky in this price range. Not spirity like some no age statement whisky can suffer from, rather a distinct but odd cask character which most of my friends either like or hate...

15th January 2017

Glad I never wasted money on it

I was given this bottle of Loch Lomond original as a present. I've had a few drams out of it, at first it seemed OK then on my second it started to leave a strange taste in my mouth and has a very young spirit kick so had a couple more to be sure and it doesn't get any better.
Overall would not recommend it and I'm glad I never parted with cash as at £25 you can get some really good drams ( Highland Park 12, Old Pulteney 12, Aberlour 10,12 and so on)
Don't waste your cash on this

28th December 2016

Good stuff

Not my favorite whisky ever but for $40 not bad at all and cheaper than a lot of other bottles I have been getting lately. This has a lot of character to it, it has a sort of sour oak taste with a hint of peat smoke and honey maybe some butter and some coastal tang to it as well event though I don't believe it is aged by the sea ( I don't know though I am from California).Very interesting was gonna give it a 7 since its not that smooth but it has some great flavor and character to it, it's pretty unique and reasonably priced so I'll bump it up to an 8. Cheers! The Sugarbear

Bonnie, bonnie bankers

Picked up a bottle for £9.50 in Gibraltar (Boom! Take that Customs & Excise). Touch of smoke, touch of toffee, touch of spice; the match of many more expensive single malts.

If you're happy to go the extra cash, I can also heartily recommend the Loch Lomond and Inchmurrin 18 year olds. Loving the Loch Lomond boys, right now.

31st May 2016

the nose is not very nice at all, its not a nose you would savour, the taste however is very reasonable ,its good a pleasant burn, not too lingering, theres a liqurice edge that is far from bad, its more engaging than i thought it would be, i must say it could grow on me fast,
