Inchmurrin 12 Year Old

Inchmurrin 12 year old from Loch Lomond distillery, rebranded in 2015 as part of the Inchmurrin 'Islands Collection'. Which is rather apt, as Inchmurrin is the largest fresh water island in the British Isles, and it sits in Loch Lomond! Coincidence? We think not. Anyway, this is a wonderfully creamy single malt, which features whisky drawn from a trio of cask style, namely Bourbon casks, refill casks and recharred casks.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Creamy sweet cereals and allspice. Hints of toffee apples and pear drops. A little caramel and furniture polish.

Palate Smooth, rich palate entry with barley malt and salt caramel. Dried herbs, candied peels and allspice.

Finish Medium-long finish. Spicy.

Reviews for Inchmurrin 12 Year Old
Great value
Bought this in the 3 for 2, it’s a good price any way but a steal in that offer. Glad they bottled at 46 it makes a big difference

It’s a grower
Bought this off some great reviews and a miniature taster. I won’t lie, the nose on first opening is spirit led and pretty rough! With some experimenting, I found a teaspoon and a bit of water mellows out that spirit and brings forward this wonderful rich fruitiness - it really is unmatched by any other whisky I’ve tried. It improves with time in the glass, and indeed the bottle improves vastly with time in the drinks cabinet. Persevere and you shall be rewarded!

*A Very Good Whisky*
A great combination of fruitiness and spiciness, which I find 'moreish' and killing my bottle far too quickly! Great value too.

Very average malt
Tried this after their classic 12... The Inchmurrin just doesn't hold up, it smells and tastes like it's really missing something. The casks are weak (very low oak influence, short finish) and the body feels thin even despite the 12 years with 46% plus NCF. Nothing stands out in this malt, it's virtually the definition of mediocre. I would never buy this over their classic 12 again.

Probably shouldn't work, but kinda does
Interesting combination of sour and sharp, malt and something perhaps sulphurous.
Tastes like there's something not quite right about their stills, but rather than detracting too much, it just makes this interesting.

Fruity complexity
Nose is bold and complex...fruit and licorice. Palate is spirit dominated with hints of licorice, apples and tropical fruit. Finish is medium to long and slightly dry. My first purchase of a Loch Lomond whisky and I am impressed.

Very Special
It could be between few single malts that has its own ID and Passport! As if you met someone that lives all his his time on a remote isle, human but different. You can't find this speciality anywhere else...

Gentle giant
Love this whisky but it's definitely not smooth as someone below says. It needs a fair amount of water to reduce the roughness (not too much as a bit of rough is part of its charm!) and what you'll hopefully get is a rich, warm, welcoming, rounded, caramel, spiced oaky apple that really is an absolute pleasure, especially in Autumn! One to fall in love with for the long term.
