Mannochmore
Scotland
Single Malt
Rare stuff indeed. This was distilled at Mannochmore from 1996 to '97. This 10 year old is known as "The Black Whisky", so named for its very dark appearance. The producers attribute the colour to the use of double charred casks. Perhaps there's a drop or two of spirit caramel in the equation. Regardless, this is quite a collectible, even if it's not particularly well-regarded by critics.
Feel really lucky to have kept some for my special occasions as it has now reached crazy prices
Love the smokey taste of this now rare whisky
I remember drinking this as a regular pour, which my uncle referred to as "soda pop". It was mild on the palate with no nose to speak of. It was a treat to drink it in front of company who would migrate to other scotch whisky on the shelf or were actually surprised when they ventured to taste it. If I had known the distribution in the US was ending I would have bought a case. As it was I purchased the last three bottles on the shelf at my local liquor store. I thought it would return. I have many fond memories of Loch Dhu and saddened that it is gone and is no longer affordable. Fare thee well old friend we had many good times together.
This was my favourite whisky. I still have a unopened bottle that I kept in my cellar for over 20yrs.
This was my favourite Whisky. I happen to still have a unopened bottle that I kept in my cellar for over 20yrs. So disappointed when it was discontinued.
