Laphroaig 10yo Batch 15

The latest batch (#15, no less) of Laphroaig 10 Year Old Cask Strength demonstrates that the Islay distillery is in no danger of running out of peaty powerhouses for us to enjoy. This has all the smoky, medicinal, and sweet notes you've come to expect and at 56.5% ABV, those flavours don't exactly hide.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Thick waves of iodine peat smoke followed by candied fruit and toffee.

Palate Rich, earthy, and spicy heaps of clove, cardamom, and chilli. Then, salted caramel, blackcurrant, and a hint of liquorice.

Finish Huge and drying.

Reviews for Laphroaig 10 Year Old Cask Strength - Batch 015
Not what it used to be
I've had a few bottles of Laphroaig's 10-year cask strength whisky over the years, and they've all been flavorful delights. It's been hard to find where I live, so when I recently saw a bottle on the shelf I snatched it up.
I'm sorry to say, Batch 015 doesn't come close to previous versions I've had: It's all smoke and iodine, without the balance of fruit and other flavors I'm used to. It is also very rough, not smooth at all.
Sadly, Laphroaig might be sacrificing quality for mass production...

Still disapointed
Have just started the second bottle i bought at the same time. The nose is interesting but the first taste is rough, rough, rough. As others have said, this is cashing in on the name. This really requires more finishing. Any peat or smoke is just totally obliterated by the roughness of it.
Its great to drink when recovering from covid or the lurgy when you need something to cauterise the throat. But to enjoy a glass by a fire, look at the basic 10 year or an good ardbeg or a machrie moor.

Has everything
Stunning drop. One of my favourites. I don’t normally add water but a few drops in this really brings out the flavours.

Rough
I thought i would try this. Two bottles arrived today! Having just drunk my 'rent', I thought I would open one to see how it compared as I had tried a couple when I was in the distillery in May and wasnt impressed. Since they stopped selling their 15 year version, I have tended to drink Ardbeg. So opening this 10 year old I had mixed feelings. I have found this very rough compared to the normal 10 year old. I was hoping for bags of peat and smoke but I cant find it. It just doesnt feel finished.

Very good, but I prefer the batch 14
Slightly smokier and less refined compared to the batch 14. But still a very good whisky nonetheless.

Flavour Bomb
Packs a punch, everything from the standard 10 year dialled up to 11. This is how Laphroaig is supposed to be.

Disappointing
I'll start by saying this is not a bad whisky per se, but it's not great either. Yet another distillery trading on their name with overpriced, sub-par bottlings. You live you learn.

Heaven!
Spot on! Just got all you'd expect without being off putting. Really is special and a worthwhile venture, just heaven!

Good but not spectacular
I just bought this and started tasting - the iodine peat is definitely very dominant, the Laphroaig signature is definitely there, even when diluting it down to 40-50%.

I wouldn't say it's bad, it's authentically Laphroaig, but I do feel like some sherry maturation to impart some additional sweetness would help balance this whisky out.

For me there is 0 sweetness in this whisky, which might be welcome given the dumbing down of most whiskies nowadays, but I do feel it would have made this whisky more well rounded if it was there.
