Laphroaig 10yo #013

Some folks see 13 as an unlucky number – you might even see some buildings just skip having a 13th floor altogether. The Laphroaig team clearly does not have triskaidekaphobia, as what we've got here is the 13th batch of its 10 Year Old Cask Strength single malt! Matured in ex-bourbon casks for a decade, and bottled up at a robust 57.9% ABV, this expression is powerfully flavoursome, with loads of smoky intensity to enjoy.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Roasted malt, snuffed candle, seaweed, brown sugar, oily oak, iodine.

Palate Powerfully peaty with vegetal smoke and sea air, backed up by hints of vanilla sweetness and a smidge of coffee.

Finish Lasting medicinal notes and toasty black pepper spiciness.

Reviews for Laphroaig 10 Year Old Cask Strength - Batch 013
soft and fragrant
It is soft and fragrant like a high-aged whiskey. Great!

Undecided....
Cask strength Islays are rarely bad and neither is this. If batch 12 was an exceptional 10yo. Then this is a good 10yo sherry cask. Very likely the same but at a higher abv. I enjoyed it but not blown away. Glad I've got 1 bottle but unlike the 12, won't be buying a 2nd or 3rd.

Nectar!
I strongly disagree with the first review… this is as good as any other recent batch. Fully agree with the second review. Top draw stuff and excellent value.

As good as the last batch I tried.
Tried at The Whisky Show. I'd already read the review below and instantly disagreed. It was about my 5th pour of the day, all good, but interchangeable. This was notably the most distinctive, and obviously Laphroaig-ey, and every bit as good as the last batch I'd had which was 11, if a touch lighter . I know my tastebuds can change from day to day. Perhaps "Gutted"s palate was having a day off! It remained the best of the day until a mate poured me a generous helping of the last bottle of a 21 YO SC, and followed it up with a 45 YO!! Since those two are either extinct drams or impossibly expensive, I may happily settle for a bottle of this...

Gutted
Batch 12 being probably the finest whisky I've ever tasted, I'd hoped this was similar. If 12 was complex, naturally coloured and smooth as you like for a cask strength, batch 13 is syrup. Has no redeeming features. Thick, sweet, caramel coloured to an extreme level. So disappointed.
