Lagavulin 2000 Distillers Bottling Note

Here's the 2016 release of Lagavulin's Distillers Edition expression, which was distilled in 2000 and finished in Pedro Ximenéz casks before being bottled in 2016. 2016 was a big year for the distillery on the south coast of Islay, as they were celebrating their 200th anniversary - as referenced on this whisky's label.

Lagavulin 2000 (bottled 2016) Pedro Ximénez Cask Finish - Distillers Edition Reviews

Juste Great

I am quiet a beginner in whisky, also it took me couple glass (in couple days...) To really enjoyed it and taste that amazing difference with other less expensive Islay whisky. If perfection exists, I think it would be very close. Love it ! Even my wife who usually do not drink strong alcohol likes it... I can tell you or is something !

The best

This is a complex peaty whisky. It has it all - peat, iodine, smoke, and a beautiful finish due to aging in oloroso casks. If you leave some in a glass bedside you can can actually smell the smoke in the morning when you arise. Drink this one if ardbeg has overpowers you.

When I was a newbie I bought a bottle of Lagavulin 16 that lasted me almost two years. The introduction of strong, smoke and peat along with iodine just did not sit well with me. At around a 3rd of the bottle left it finally hit me that this stuff was gooooood!! Have been thinking of another bottle but this year I decided to give the Distillers Edition a try instead.

Now this is what I'm talkin' about!! The balance is impeccable, so complex, figs and nut and plush red fruit. The smoke and peat are still there but not overpowering but well rounded and blended with the aforementioned notes. I have not experienced 25 or 30 year old malts but I would be shocked if they were any better than this. Lagavulin hit this out of the park and it is now on the top of my list....just can't see anything knocking it down to second.....price being a consideration.

Highly recommended.

I received a bottle today, for my 65th birthday, from my son. I am so glad he got me this one. A beautiful, well rounded, earthy, rich, smoky dram that ranks right up there with some that are double or triple the cost, or more! I found the peatiness and smoke to be more balanced than the regular 16yo. This has a wonderful nose, exquisite middle, and a stellar lingering finish. This is one I will savor on special occasions only.

Having tasted the Laga 16yo, this is of a completely different level. Does not taste too peaty and the smokiness is just right, not overwhelming. One of the best whiskeys!

Rounded, Less Medicinal Peat and More Sweet Notes Than the Laga 16 Standard

Creamier from start to sweetening (but not too sweet) finish.
The soft peat and smoke, present from nose to finish, bookend the slightly different style of Laga distillate relative to the Standard 16: but, the sherry cask-finished Islay never lets you forget, even for a moment, that you are enjoying yet another well-crafted Lagavulin.

If you really enjoy the 16, as well as PX-casked whisky, then the 2000 Distiller's Edition should please your discerning palate and make for a memorable Lagavulin.

This humble reviewer plans to purchase another bottle of the 2000 DE before the stock depletes.
Slàinte mhath!

Great whisky!

Much better than Lagavulin 16. I found it to be very similar to Ardbeg Uigeadail, which is a fantastic dram in my books.

Lagavullin 12 flavours, delivered smoother and gentler

Premium smoother version of the Lagavullin I know and love that I didn't realise could be improved upon!!
