The Kurayoshi 18 Year Old Bottling Note

18 year old blended malt from the Kurayoshi range, created by the Matsui Shuzou distillery. Though not very well-known, Matsui Shuzou have created some rather marvellous expression for this series, made using malt whiskies from Scotland, transported over to Japan, blended with Japanese malt whiskies and brought down to bottling strength with volcanic-rock-filtered water.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Slightly grassy at first, before layers of buttered bread and aromatic oak develop.

Palate: Fresh orange, black tea smokiness, a pinch of cumin powder, brown sugar.

Finish: Vanilla-forward, with another hint of smoke lingering.

Reviews for The Kurayoshi 18 Year Old
Good should be great
Decent whiskey. Tastes a bit too butterscotchy, and sharp for the price and age. Not as complex, round as a $50 bottle of quinta ruban.

Dubious history... excellent whiskey
Dubious history, excellent whiskey. Well blended, balanced and smooth. I was unsure about buying given the history (no doubt in keeping with many of the other more recognised Japanese Brands) but it was well worth it. I suspect this will sky rocket price wise in the near future.

Keep an extra for friends.
Awesome. Bright killer with mixed nuts. Cuts through figs almonds and raisins with a spicy finish. Try with a la mosa du cuba cigar and tell me what you think. Almost like an over proof highland on its own.

My non-whisky drinker wife like it!
Very Sandalwood aromatic alike Oak taste, it develop and last till finish.

My wife is a non-whisky drinker, but she fell in love whisky after tasted this bottle. I was lucky to grab 2 bottles of this in Osaka Airport last year.

Some said Kurayoshi is an infamous brand, but trust me. The taste profile is truly mind blowing like others quoted.

Orange, black tea and smoke /vanilla finish
Rarely is there a whiskey with 3 distinct flavour profiles in each sip. Initial orange flavour gives way into black tea into a Smokey finish at the end.

Pretty mind blowing. I rarely share this bottle with anyone else.

Out of this world
Tried it in a bar in Tokyo. I was blown away by the complexity of flavour. Unbelivable.
