Knappogue Castle 1995

Knappogue Castle 1995 Bottling Note

Distilled at Bushmills in 1995, Knappogue Castle is a superb vintage Irish single malt whiskey bottled in 2008 as part of a series of excellent whiskeys under the Knappogue label. Great stuff.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Aromatic and very interesting with notes of apple strudel, boiled sweets, barley sugar and honey. A touch of pepper, oak and caramel.

Palate Creamy sweetness on the palate, with tropical fruit, barley malt, digestive biscuits, cocoa and creamy Greek yoghurt with honey and berry compote.

Finish Medium to short with notes of spice and dried grape.

Wonderful
Best Irish whiskey I have ever tasted. Have one bottle left, waiting for special occasion to open.

Pear drops, light and delicious
Wow! What great bouquet. Apple pie with a nice hint of clove and sherbet lemons. This is not the richest offering from KC (I have four expressions in all) but the lightness and openness of the palate is unusually refreshing for a malt whisky. There is abundant vanilla and some sweetness but the spice keeps it from cloying. Sadly no longer available since the move to age statement whiskeys at KC, I will have to eke it out slowly.

complex, nutty and well-balanced
My appraisal of this whiskey is that it is pleasantly sweet and smooth with nutty (especially coconut, but also some walnut), caramel, brown sugar and malty taste. On the finish I detect mostly raisins and more of the previous. It's primarily nutty and secondarily fruity, and the various flavors really go together well. This is a complex whiskey that has really aged well. I love it!

Red Berries Maelström
A truly unique nose of red berries (small forest strawberries, raspberries, ...) and a delicious mildly bitter aftertaste. Unique and not to be missed.
