Kilchoman
Kilchoman's Am Bùrach was the tasty result of a little accident at the distillery - an unnamed stillman mixed together some Machir Bay and Port Matured Kilchoman while vatting casks! Dubbed Am Bùrach ("the mess" in Gaelic) by Kilchoman General Manager Islay Heads, the whisky was filled back into Bourbon barrels and eventually given a finishing period in ruby port casks. Though its maturation history may be a bit all over the shop, the whisky itself is marvellous indeed! Plenty of classic tuck shop sweeties and fresh fruit notes, paired with a good helping of grassy, earthy smoke. Fab stuff.
Honeycomb, red apples, smoky turf earthiness, summer berry tart with extra thick double cream.
Lemon bon-bons and red liquorice, savoury basil and roasted barley, cassia and black pepper.
Just a whiff of coastal air on the finish, with continued red berry brightness.

red apples, sweet smoke, ash, reminds me of port askaig.
Found this to be good, not great, at first sip. I gave the generous dram a few drops of water and let it sit for 10 minutes and WOW! So many flavors emerged. Another 15 minutes later and it became more complex with a myriad of different notes! These are my tasting notes; Nose: peat smoke, dry red wine, beef jerky, cinnamon, vanilla. Palate: dry meat, vanilla pod, wine cask, earthy soil, and a very subtle brininess. Long, peaty, smoky, fairly sweet finish. Extremely smooth on the palate- no burn or overpowering flavors- and an oily mouthfeel. After water, wine and citrus notes emerge. Wine and wood become more evident on the palate, and earthy peat later. Finish is long, and a bit of malt emerges. After 10 minutes in the glass (after adding water), I get notes of cocoa powder and fresh fruit.
