Single Malt
Kilchoman
Scotland
An extraordinary Islay single malt that in this day and age is uniquely made using barley that's grown, harvested, malted, distilled and matured all at a single farm distillery! Lightly peated in comparison to other Kilchomans, this 6th edition was filled into ex-Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels in 2010 and bottled in 2016.
Chocolatey smoke with fruity hints, like a barbecued banana stuffed with chocolate buttons. Barley and hints of guava. A drop of water reveals gingerbread and burnt panettone.
Silky, clean peat smoke dances on the tongue with light texture, subtle wood spice and dried banana chips.
Cocoa and smoke linger but far from being heavy, the finish is refreshing with the subtlest hint of menthol.
This is a very nice whisky. It's somewhat delicate compared to their Machir Bay, (which is my favorite Kilchoman so far) but really shows it's Buffalo Trace ancestry. I hope they have put some of this aside to age a little longer. I would love to try this at 10, 12 and 16 years old.
