Sound the klaxons, it's the 9th Edition of Kilchoman's annual 100% Islay release! This particular expression was distilled from 2007 and 2009 barley crops grown on Islay, and you can even trace the origins back to the barley variety, field and farmer who planted it. How's that for local?
This edition was matured exclusively in American oak bourbon barrels for nine years in the on-site dunnage warehouses before it was bottled at 50% ABV, with an outturn of 12,000 bottles. As with all 100% Islay releases, it only weighs in at 20ppm compared to Kilchoman's usual 50ppm, allowing the tropical notes from the bourbon barrel can really shine through in this one.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose Orange blossom, apricot jam, a woody, piney note and kitchen herbs, with a touch of candied citrus.
Palate Lemon drizzle cake, boatloads of tropical fruit, with overripe banana, a drizzle of honey and whisps of maritime smoke alongside slightly burnt orchard fruit crumble.
Finish Oily malt on a clean finish with sweet fruit and smoke intertwined.
