A Pedro Ximenéz Sherry cask matured Taiwanese single malt from the Kavalan range, bottled at 57.1% ABV. These are incredible popular indeed, and it packs a massively well-Sherried punch.
If you're not familiar with Kavalan whiskey, you're definitely missing out. I've tried several sherry casks and this is one of the best. Rich and sweet like baked bananas and caramel sauce... I purchased in Taiwan for around £250, which was fine. An excellent dram. Might have one now actually...
Dram into a tuath glass with the nose shows sweet notes of raisin and dried fig. The palate shows a mild sweetness with a strong port/raisin forwardness throughout. After a drop of water, the nose shows rounder and cleaner notes of raisin and dried fig. The palate is softer with more forward caramel notes with a bed of raisin and dried figs.
