Kavalan ex-Bourbon 59.4% Bottling Note

Taiwanese single malt whisky from the award-winning Kavalan range, produced by King Car.This particular expression matured in casks that previously held bourbon before being bottled at cask strength. The vanilla-y elements from the bourbon casks work very well with the fruity spirit from King Car, resulting in a well-balanced expression.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Coconut, banana fritters, orange peel and vanilla pod.

Palate: Melted chocolate, pineapple and a touch of toasted almond.

Finish: Cherry, cedar and a soft hint of cinnamon.

Happy New Year 2020!

Cast year: 2011, bottled 2015, 59.4% abv

Cracked this bottle open on new year eve 31Dec2019.
On the nose is fruity, strong vanila. The palate is very similar to the nose. Sweat, vanila, very oaky, coconut. It is not very complex but very bold taste. Very strong and need to add abit of water to tone down the alcohol.
Finish is very long, oakiness lingers with abit of bitterness.

This is the first time i tried Kavalan. Overall I am not dissapointed. But i think the bottle will taste better if given some time to air. A very good dessert whisky. Amazing for a whisky thats only 4 years old! Doesnt require alot of effort to appreciate it. With water, I would even say beginner friendly.
Definitely worth a try.!
