Johnnie Walker XR 21 Year Old

Johnnie Walker XR 21YO Bottling Note

A special edition release of Johnnie Walker, this 21 year old expression was inspired by the blending notes of Sir Alexander Walker. Featuring whisky from the extensive Johnnie Walker stocks, the XR 21 Year Old is even said to include whisky from the now-silent Brora distillery. Exciting stuff from Johnnie Walker!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Spiced apple, smoky oak and a little toasted brioche.

Palate: Herbal as it opens. This gives way to orange and lemon peels by the bucket-load, followed by another kick of smoky malt.

Finish: Wafts of Sherry-soaked raisins last and last.

Hi
Definitely not worth the price tag. This is comparable to bottles one third of its $240 price tag. It also doesn’t have the palate of a 21 year old. Johnny Walker has tarnished their credibility from my end with this one.

Too soft
I was expecting more. Very 'weak' on the nose and palate. Finish is very short. Not a good experience. It is not complex enough and the flavour is just too distant IMO. It is just on a lower rung.

Excellent and complex
To the poster below: I tried it on a cruise ship recently (Royal Caribbean). I was told that's the only place it's still available. $179 a bottle.

Smooooooth...
I am not an expert but I love my single malts. However when I drink blended, I always prefer either this or the 18-year Chivas. A real winner from JW... a lot better than the Blue, which is simply over-rated!
