Johnnie Walker Green Label 15 Year Old

Johnnie Walker Green Label is a blended malt made entirely with single malts from the four corners of Scotland and aged for at least 15 years. It's one of the best bargains in Scotch whisky and a favourite among bartenders.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

The nose is quite rich and full. There are notes of mochaccino and espresso coffee, wood smoke and a fireplace, as well as a touch of bitter chocolate and oak.

    Palate

The palate has a medium-body with notes of crisp cereals, coffee beans and chocolate, a date note with a touch of walnut.

    Finish

The finish is quite long and spicy with honeyed sweetness and oak.

15yr blend could have more balance

I've had smoother and better balanced. You are hit with oak quickly and you do get some caramel but the alcohol kicks in quick and leaves a bitter/too smokey taste. Blend not for me.

    A bit immature.

Johnnie Walker Green label is very hard to find in my area of Canada. It's often touted as the malt snob's preferred member of the JW range. In the glass, you have a slightly lighter than average whisky, however it is still obvious that caramel colouring and chill filtering is used. The whisky is not as oily and does not have "legs in the glass" On the nose you are greeted with Talisker's peat , followed up by citrus fruits, coffee, vanilla and unfortunately strong oak. I was sentimental about this whisky so maybe I am judging this bottle purchased in 2022 a bit harshly. Upon the first sip, you are greeted with very nice light peat, there is a sharp sweetness and a floral medicinal Islay body. Unfortunately there just seems to be a bit too much oak for something as mature as a 15-year-old vatted malt. The finish is smooth much like its black and blue labelled brothers. This is a complex and layered whisky however I am missing the balance that a 15-year-old vatted malt should have. I feel as if this whisky is now overrated. There just isn't enough going on to justify the price point but if you haven't experienced a single malt or any peated whiskies I would recommend this as a first step into the realm of whisky/ peated whiskies. I would rate this whisky 75/100 I feel time will make this whisky more palatable but it definitely is worth a look if you haven't tried it. I just wish the price point was closer to that of black label given the lack of maturity in the taste.

    Special drop

I have a bottle which was purchased in 2001 under the old labeling johnnie walker pure malt 15 extra special which makes it 36 years. Trouble is wife won't let me drink it.

A top affordable 15 year blend.

Fantastic 15 year 43% blend !!!! With a day off at home, a dram to start a lazy Sunday. Always advisable to take the Monday off also.
