The first whisky entry in our Single Cask Series from a distillery that isn't in Scotland! This is a 6 year old Paul John single malt whisky from John Distilleries in Goa, India, matured in a single bourbon cask from December 2008 to March 2015. Very exciting indeed - big and smoky with peat, while maintaining a touch of freshness with fruit notes throughout.
Opens with a combination of rich, bold, smoky peat and notes of barrel char, bringing an oak-y element to the nose. Salted caramel and cookie-dough ice-cream. Subtle touches of blackcurrant and lime peel peek out at points too.
Fresher, fruitier on the palate, with marmalade, red apples and greengages. Still retains the big peaty notes throughout, growing creamy with waves of vanilla. A drop of water brings out sugared dates and almonds.
A little bit grassy and still plenty peaty on the finish. Quite long, with a suggestion of milk chocolate right near the end.
An intense Paul John single malt here, with loads of character behind it.
