    Jack Daniel's Tennessee Rye

The Jack Daniel's range grew in 2017 with the introduction of their Tennessee Rye whiskey - the first whiskey from the distillery with a mash-bill that different from the classic Tennessee Whiskey since Prohibition! It features a core of 70% rye, supported by 18% corn and 12% malted barley, and enjoys the same charcoal filtration as their other expressions.

harsh and dry with not a lot of flavour.

Of all the Jack Daniels that I have tasted I feel that this is my least favourite. I find it harsh on the palate which is the exact opposite to honey which is smooth and moorish. Not one that I would buy again.

has its merits - I enjoy it in Manhattans and Sazeracs and can stand a sip

It's hard to find rye where I live so I can't offer you broad experience. The other brand I can get is Bulleit and I only bought it once. This is better if memory serves well, because Bulleit was a bit non-de-script, though has a more quality feel, whereas this seems to have better character for what it's worth. I've bought a few bottles because I love sazeracs and Manhattans, though again, limited to Bulleit or JD for experience in those. I forgot Beam rye; I bought it once- it's only 40% so wouldn't have stood up in a Manhattan or sazerac. As a sipper, I find this interesting as a contrast to mediocre scotch or bourbon. Dry and spicy but a sweetness there too . It makes me want to experience the good stuff. I won't give it stars because I don't have enough to compare it with

Re: "you don't get to be one of the world brand leaders if your product is duff"

Re: "you don't get to be one of the world brand leaders if your product is duff". Respectfully: SURE YOU DO! Just consider Budweiser, Hershey's (chocolate), Lipton tea, both colas and yes, JD. They are all DUFF but popular. Trouble is: most reviewers of this product are going to be drinkers of No. 7, meaning it only needs to be "different" and not worse (which is not saying much). Serious enthusiasts are going to view it completely different. JD is a great and important historical company but stingy with the abv (and age). If they want to compete, their Gentleman Jack should at least be 90-proof to even try to compete with George Dickel No. 12. (it would still lose).

    Nope

I'm a rye lover and this is just insulting. The price made me give it a try, but now it sticks out in my collection like a sore thumb until I have the guts to pour it down the drain. Simply. Awful.
