Highland Park - Batch 2 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)

Batch 2 of Highland Park single malt Scotch whisky, bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company features the beautiful faces of the crowd that graced us with their presence and helped pick the whisky for the first batch at Maltstock 2012. It also shows the ghost of Charlemange chucking his bloomers up a tree for good luck, because things like crossing your fingers and carrying about horseshoes are just crazy superstitions. This is how luck is really made.

However, there's something different about the label for batch 2 of Highland Park. It's like there's someone or something looking down on the happy scene from up above. Is it there to guide us, or to cause a bit of cheeky havoc? Who can say? Jim Murray gave this whisky a score of 90.5 points in his Whisky Bible.

This is a release of 386 numbered bottles.

‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains, blended malts, blends and bourbons from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic-novel-style labels.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Some peat, honey and a touch of ash give way to pineapple and tropical notes. Creamy with pineapple turkish delight. Toffee, wedding cake and a hint of coffee icing. A little green mango develops.

    Palate

The oak comes into its own now, this is a well matured whisky, again a lick of initial peat followed by coffee, a little more wedding cake and finally dried apricots.

    Finish

    Pineapple and oak.

    Overall

This fruity Highland Park really has aged wonderfully. A delight!

Reviews for Highland Park - Batch 2 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)

    Response to "Who would buy?"

Me. One million times me. These bottlings are frickin delicious. haven't sampled a bad one yet. You are correct in saying Highland Park do their own good bottlings WITH AN AGE STATEMENT (oooooh must be better then [sarcastic font]) but the Boutique-y... malts are always an interesting take on the archetypal flavour of the distillery. having said that, I wish they were larger bottles. it if they were I wouldn't be able to afford them. Price of whisky these days is often about rarity, and at 200-300 bottles output for these bad-boys, you should be thankful they're as cheap as the are. Rant over.

    Who would buy it?

Who would spend £72 on a NAS 50cl bottle? Highland Park is a great whisky and there are plenty of fine releases from the distiller and independent bottlers clearly stating age in a full 70 cl bottle. It may have an interesting label but I am really surprised at Master of Malt pedling this overpriced gimmick or 'cultish graphic novel'
