The Vintage Series from Highland Park sees master whisky maker Gordon Motion delve into the Orcadian distillery's stores, personally selecting small quantities of casks that showcase outstanding character and flavour. The casks are expertly married to make single vintage releases like this 1990 expression. To create this single malt, Motion selected 34 bourbon casks that were originally filled in 1990, then emptied and refilled into a host of first-fill sherry-seasoned European oak, American oak, and refill hogsheads. After further maturation, five of the most exceptional casks were selected – three European, one American, and one refill hogshead, and married together before bottling in 2023.
Tasting Note by The Producer
This beautifully aged whisky opens with aromas of ripe orchard pears, bittersweet grapefruit, delicate geranium and sweet violet, wrapped in a cloud of delicate peat smoke. Enticing notes of pink grapefruit and sweet mandarin orange follow, elegantly balanced by creamy vanilla, crushed coconut and a suggestion of warm nutmeg. Intensely fruity at the finish, hints of freshly-cut wood and heathery peat smoke linger.
