Highland Park
Scotland
Single Malt
15 year old single malt from Orkney's Highland Park Distillery, which was re-released in 2016. Dig in to waves of coastal smoke and Sherried peels, with a good core of barley to follow it up.
Orange and lemon peels, joined by sea breeze and vanilla custard.
Smoke begins light and coastal, develops throughout with a hint of well-toasted malt. Sultanas and redcurrants sit beneath it.
Long-lasting smoky elements.
My favourite scotch. Better than the 18. If 12 and 18 had a baby, this precious bottle would be it. Price needs to drop though. Too pricey.
Good whiskey, not my favorite!
Good whiskey, not my favorite
I have tried the 15 as my first bottle of Highland Park and loved it. I bought the 12 and 18 after that but to me they don't compare to the 15, it's undoubtedly my favorite and I'm sad that it is discontinued, I did buy a few though to save for when I feel like having a good glass of HP :)!
This was my favorite whisky until I discovered Lagavulin. I became obsessed with it and since its discontinuation it's been a rare treasure. For those who aren't into Islays or peated whiskies this one is incredible and smokey yet not overpowering, for those that are this one will likely underwhelm. The caveat that I've both read about and have found to be true from personal experience is that it does vary greatly from bottle to bottle. I've had several bottles and can attest to that. That being said, I've compared it to the 18yo as well as the 21yo only once or twice and felt that the 15 was better. (on a side not, I think the 12yo is better than their NAS Dark Origins.) What's most incredible is it's ability to wet then dry the palate while gentle smoke rolls in and sweet buttered bread bounces.
