Highland Park
Scotland
Single Malt
The lowest strength of the Highland Park 25 olds, this bottling is amongst their finest, with as much balance as a blindfolded tightrope walker on dental floss. Lovely heather honey character.
The nose is a little more pungent than other Highland Park bottlings. Notes of soft peat and wood with oaked tannins. There is a thick honey in presence with notes of menthol, walnut and a herbal quality: fennel and grass. The palate is quite full with toffee and supple peat. A touch of winter spice develops with notes of oaky tannins to chew. The finish is warm and fiery with notes of spicy oak.
My first bottle of this single malt was expensive in my books. I had just purchased a bottle of Signet for our group of scotch drinker at work. The Signet was $ 250.00, my first HP 25 was $ 165.00. After we had finished the Signet the request was for HP 25. BOY was I surprised to find the going price for a bottle was $ 499.00 in our province (Nova Scotia, Canada). I did track down a cheaper bottle in another province which we are truly enjoying. Bottom line this scotch is good, no Great! Try and pick up a bottle before the market goes nuts and prices this dram out of the reach of most. I'm still able to pick this up under $ 383.00 Canadian but with other provinces much higher, it won't be long before this is a deal at $ 900.00 (Ontario's price). Bottom Line--- Buy Now, Drink Later.
This scotch will take you places, places only Marty McFly can go. It is probably the best and Ive had the HP 40 year old. This scotch lacks nothing. It respects all aspects of the process and will move you. I wasn't worthy of the two bottles Ive been privileged to consume. I am a better person now.
It never stops, it circles on my tongue and then revisits all over. The dried fruit and barley deep rich complex thick memories on a lost horizon. Pure Beauty!
I bought the 25-year for my 50th birthday. The very first glass moved me to tears, and I felt myself being swept back in time. Before long I was weeping openly and bitterly, reflecting on all the wrong turns I'd taken in life.
From when I started drinking whisky years ago until now, this has been one of my absolute favourites. It was then, it still is today. Absolutely delicious.
