The Helios distillery in Okinawa Japan may be more well-known for producing rums and awamori (a type of rice-based drink only produced in Okinawa), but they been known to dip their toe in the world of whisky. Kura The Whisky is a blended malt (or as the a label says, a "pure malt") produced by Helios and bottled at 40% ABV. Intriguing stuff...
Toasted oak and a touch of moss, creamy lemon and soft malt.
Brown sugar, burnt oak again (now with a touch of earthiness to it), lime marmalade.
Rye bread and a touch of bitter grape.
It taste like a young Scotch that was smoked over a dumpster fire. Vile. May be the fist bottle of booze that I ever pour down my sink.
This is by far the worst whiskey I have ever tasted. It tasted like burn wood and cough medicine rolled into one bottle.
Great whisky, absolutely loved the smooth sweetness, very easy drinking - I think I found my new everyday dram!
I was looking forward to this whisky since I had heard good things about it. Bought a 750 ml bottle at Costco for $45 (US). Saw it for sale online for $129 -$169! Costco must be a good deal! Couldn’t wait to try it! I was hugely disappointed! It’s described as tasting of sour grapes, earth, molasses...etc. It doesn’t taste like any of those things! It tastes like Scotch stored in a barrel of asphalt! It is frickin’ nasty! This is Scotch imported from Scotland to Okinawa, then stored in rum casks (how long?). I swear to God it tastes like Scotch poured over fresh asphalt! Don’t waste your money! Too many good whiskey’s on the market!
Found it very pleasant! Interesting idea to drink a whisky from Okinawa..
