An extraordinary whisky, this Hazelburn was aged for 5 years in refill bourbon casks, and finished for a full three years in Sauternes casks! It was distilled in June 2002, and bottled at natural cask strength in February 2011, and there are just 9,180 bottles.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Really great for an 8 yr - can easily be mistaken for something older. For the nose I got salty sweet, slightly medicinal, green apple and raisin tones, perhaps some peppermint, also got a smoke smell that grows stronger when water is added. Taste is initially very sweet, creamy caramel and butterscotch. The smoke flavor takes over a bit in the finish which is of a reasonable length. I am greatly enjoying my bottle.
Creamy, thick and sweet. Orange marmelade, bit of sweet oak and liquorice. Very nice indeed. But needs water to open up on it's fullest. Finish is present and nice for sweets lovers. If you liked this one, must try Glendronach Revival or some single cask range. Povilas
