Emperor's Way 4 Year Old (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)
This single malt hails from the Hammerschmiede distillery in Germany. Boutique-y Whisky regulars will be familiar with the distillery's Elsburn single malt, but here we have something different – Emperor's Way is the name given to its peated, smoky expressions! Rather unusually, local German peat was used during malting, and the whisky was matured in an extremely rare first-fill Japanese mizunara oak cask. A cracking find from That Boutique-y Whisky Company, and just the thing to join its World of Smoke collection.
Batch 1 is a release of 477 bottles.
That Boutique-y Whisky Company bottles limited edition whiskies from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blends. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Aromatic wood and fragrant vanilla join runny honey and biscuity malt, with roasted coffee grounds and delicate bonfire smoke in the distance.
Palate
Elegant and refined, with softly sweet, floral honey balancing touch of clove, delicate peat, and oaken spice.
Finish
Earthy peat and smoked chilli flakes linger for the finish.
