Glenrothes Robur Reserve Bottling Note

Glenrothes Robur Reserve is a fabulous little travel retail exclusive, named for European of Spanish oak, Quercus Robur. This is aged with a good proportion of first fill Oloroso sherry casks…

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Sherry on the nose, sweet Olosoro, pepper, berry fruits, calves leather and cedar wood.

Palate: Sweet spices, nutmeg, prune juice, a hint of uncooked pastry, a little golden syrup and Demerara rum.

Finish: Cloves, more of those prunes, a hint of dried apricot and toasted barley.

Nice 'everyday' whisky

My first experience with Glenrothe. It was a gift from my mother who knows my taste for sherried juice and speysiders.
In the nosey: Oloroso is the key here. A well known presence of fruity sweetness with a whiff of spices. Slight alcohol.
In the mouth: I can best describe it as "sweet dryness". It goes everywhere and as the alcohol wears off, the sugary frutiness becomes almost vinous. The peppery'ish spiciness lingers in the background.
The finale: The "boooo" thing here is, that's quite short but when it is there it develops from fruity to some sort of dark roasted coffee and criollo chocolate. Not unpleasant. Just a bit confusing.

This really is good juice. Throw in s tad of water or an cube of ice for a really good summer whisky or have it neat for creme brulee. Or just - have it.
Easy to drink and well balanced

Oh dear!

We bought this one on Border Shop (Puttgarten) in July and the price was more than half of what you charge as it was a special offer. It´s quite alright for being a Speyside, we prefer an Islay but couldn´t resist to buy it! :o)

I was very lucky to find a bottle of the Robur Reserve on sale, in an out of the way corner of Gibraltar, for some way below the listed price. (Good old Gibraltar!)

It's pleasant but I've had better from Glenrothes... The Sherry Reserve, The Manse Reserve, the 1995, the 1998 are all superior (IMO, which counts for little). I would place this not far from the Select Reserve and suggest that, if you're eager to explore the Glenrothes, have a go at the 2001 - That's great!

Easy Drinkin

Got a bottle after reading pos reviews on MoM. Very nice, easy drinkin dram. Should probably get 4.5, if i hadn't just got through a bottle of the Sherry Reserve, which is excellent, & begs the question- why aren't the NAS Macallans as good? IMHO probably because Glenrothes carved their own path, with individual vintages, avoiding the 10/12/15 etc route. So, now many of our old favourite Speysiders are struggling in the quality dept, but Glenrothes are still releasing lots of good expressions. I've been a fan of the Select Reserve for the last 5 years, & the 2 new expressions i've tasted have impressed me just as much.
Take note Diageo, Chivas & Edrington.

Motor City Whiskey Girl

Mild scent. Sweet finish, almost like a honeybun or light maple glaze. Easy in the mouth with the lingering essence of praline. Slow warmth.

No taste of uncooked pastry for me, just a really good tasting snifter, made for those hot balmy nights next to the Indian ocean after the close passage of cyclone Felleng. Blimey a good one even my wife is having a crack at it.
