Ian Macleod
Scotland
Single Malt
19 year old single malt from the Glenrothes distillery, which has been finished in a Pedro Ximénez cask. It was distilled back in January 1997 and bottled in June 2016 by Ian Macleod for their Chieftain's range. A release of 495 bottles.
Generous barley, developing into creamy vanilla and a little bit of bramley apple pie. Sweet, sticky Sherry notes offer a supporting sweetness.
Spicy cinnamon and black pepper, balanced with more Sherried sweetness. Dried apricots and prunes.
Vanilla extract and diced almond-topped pastries. Lingering raisin notes.

A complex malt that really needs time in the glass to open up. Initially acetic, but after some water and patience, it turns into a beautifully matured sweet/savoury sherried dram. Plums, raisins and buiscuits with a bit of soy sauce. One of the best I have had in 5 years.
Overpowering. Huge bite. Not smooth at all. I gave it a month to open up, still disappointing. Don't waste your money.
